So, we tried to start the Bus, and <snap>! the starter knob breaks in half! We improvised with a spanner for a bit, but needed a permanent solution, and couldn’t find anything we could buy to replace it. Fortunately, we were able to improvise a solution with a drive connector and some bits from the man-drawer…
We did a quick video to showcase what the SOS Bus has to offer- hope you like it!
There was a lot to do to get started. The Bus had been broken into while at the tip, and left in a mess, as well as items stolen, amongst them the PS3 and fridge. Vandals had cut cables when removing these, leaving a mess that needed to be tidied and made safe before we could even think of powering up the Bus.
This is where I started to go public with the project. After hearing that the SOS Bus had been mothballed, I wanted to get it back out on the streets again, helping people as it was designed to do. Not just on Saturday nights, either- it could be used for so much more as well!
